Public art project across Reykjavík, Iceland
Roni Horn's exhibition opened on all billboards in Reykjavík at midnight on New Year's Day, 2025. The exhibition is the fourth in a series of exhibitions that Y gallery is working on in collaboration with Billboard and the Reykjavík Art Museum, called Billboard Ad Break. Each year, one artist shows work on all of the more than 600 Billboard screens throughout the city. Over 80% of the city's residents see the exhibition every day from January 1-3.
The project is a platform for art in public spaces intended to brighten up the day and give citizens the opportunity to enjoy art throughout the city. The artists who have previously participated in the project are Hrafnkell Sigurðsson, Sigurður Ámundason and Haraldur Jónsson and their works are now part of the collection of the Reykjavík Art Museum. Hrafnkell Sigurðsson received the Icelandic Art Prize for the exhibition Resolution in Billboard Ad Break 2023.
